Ubisoft has officially confirmed the start of production on a live-action series set in the Assassin's Creed universe for Netflix. The show will be set in Ancient Rome in 64 AD, a period marked by the Great Fire and the reign of Nero.

The cast was also revealed along with the announcement. The lead roles will be played by Toby Wallace, known for his work on Baby Teeth, and Lola Petticrew, known for her work on the series Say Nothing.

Netflix greenlit the series back in July 2025. Emmy nominees Roberto Patino ("DMZ," "Westworld," "Sons of Anarchy") and David Wiener ("Halo," "Homecoming," "The Killing") are serving as showrunners and producers.

The cast also includes Laura Marcus, Tenzin Crawford, Zachary Hart, Claes Bang, Noomi Rapace, Ramzy Bedia, Sean Harris, Corrado Invernizzi, Sandra Guldberg Kamp, Youssef Kerkour, and Mirren Mack.

Netflix previously described the series as "an action-thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions." According to the creators, the plot will follow various characters against the backdrop of key historical events.

Wiener and Patino expressed their feelings about the franchise in a joint statement last year. "

We've been Assassin's Creed fans since the first game launched in 2007," they wrote. "Every day we work on the series, we leave inspired and amazed by the possibilities Assassin's Creed opens up for us.

Behind the scale, spectacle, parkour, and action lies the foundation for the most important human stories—about people searching for meaning, grappling with questions of identity, destiny, and faith."

This is a story about power, violence, sex, greed, and revenge. But above all, it's about the value of human connections, across cultures and time. And what we risk losing as a species when those connections are broken. We have an incredible team at Ubisoft and our allies at Netflix, and we're determined to create something irresistible for fans around the world.

The premiere is expected in 2027.
